Elizabeth Lewis “Betty” Donnally Downing, age 96, of High Springs, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Betty was born in High Springs, Florida, to Hugh Lynn Donnally and Eva Donnally, on May 24, 1925.  Betty was married to Harold Earl Downing for forty-five years.

Betty is survived by her son, Harold Lynn Downing, and his wife Coralie K. Downing (of Winter Park, Florida), by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Downing (of Tampa, Florida) and by her sister, Nancy Donnally Tew, (of Raleigh, North Carolina).

Betty was graduated from the Florida State College for Women, the predecessor to Florida State University, in Tallahassee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, and was awarded her Master’s Degree in Special Education at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Florida.  She worked as a teacher in the Duval County and Seminole County Public Schools. Throughout her life, Betty was actively involved in civic and religious organizations.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Raintree Village, 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, Georgia 31601.

A brief service will be held at the High Springs Cemetery on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 1:00 p.m.
