Esperanza Benson, 74 years young, of Lake Butler, passed away on January 24, 2021 in Lake Butler, Florida.
Memorial service will be held at Evans Carter Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Tague of Santa Fe Baptist Church officiating. Fellowship will follow service at Santa Fe Baptist Church.
Esperanza was born in Cidra, Puerto Rico to Crostini Aponte and Oliva Santiago Aponte on November 23, 1946. Esperanza attended high school in Cidra, Puerto Rico and graduated in 1964. She was also a parishioner of Luis Munoz Iglesias Catholic Church in Cidra, Puerto Rico. Esperanza visited Brooklyn, New York in 1968, where she met the love of her life, Robert Benson. She worked in housekeeping for healthcare facilities for numerous years. Esperanza enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking.
Esperanza is preceded in death by her mother, Oliva Santiago Aponte; father, Crostini Aponte; sisters, Grace Aponte Daleo and Maria Aponte; brothers, Juan Aponte, Jose Aponte and Pablo Aponte; and niece Vita Ann Daleo.
Esperanza is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Benson of Lake Butler; son, Ronald Benson (Shamela Benson), daughters, Brenda Lovelace (Joseph Lovelace) and Bobbilee Benson (David Sirmans); grandchildren, John Benson, Justin Lovelace, Dylan Lovelace, Destiny Scott, Nancy Sirmans and Alisha Sirmans; nephews, Michael D’Amato (Patty D’Amato), and Carlos Daleo; nieces, Michele D’Amato (Joe Kriuthoff), Olivia Daleo Torre, Grace-Jo Daleo and Aloma Daleo; sisters, Selene Aponte, Annie Aponte, Aida Aponte; and brother, Arturo Aponte.
