John Henry Hill, of High Springs, passed away on January 5, 2023 at the age of 92.

John was born in Arlesey, Bedfordshire, a small town in England 3 miles away from Letchworth.  He returned to Letchworth after serving in the Royal Navy, where he met Ann Kirby, and married her in 1956. Together, they moved to Alachua County in 1958 to pursue new opportunities and build a beautiful life together.

John Hill was a pillar of the High Springs community. In addition to retiring as the President of Loncala, Inc., he served as a former Mayor and City Commissioner of High Springs and a former President and Member of the High Springs Rotary Club. John also was the founding President of the Ronald McDonald House of North Central Florida.  John enjoyed being a member of the First United Methodist Church of High Springs, holding many positions during his affiliation with the church.  All the while, John and Ann raised their family and lived a life of faith and purpose while building community.

He was preceded in passing by his wife, Ann, his parents John and Katherine Hill, and his sister Kathleen Phillips.

John is survived by his eldest son Michael Hill and his wife Colleen McFadden Hill, his youngest son Stuart Hill and his wife Lynnette Smith Hill, and his grandson Colin Hill and his wife Jessenia Morales.

A celebration of life will be held in John Hill’s honor on Saturday, February 25, 12:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of High Springs, where all are welcome to attend.

A Friends and Family Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
