Wayne Chester George, 89, passed away September 3, 2016.  He was born to Geneva and Thomas George on December 13, 1926 in High Springs Florida and lived there for the entirety of his life. He graduated from the University of Florida and fought in WWII and the Korean War for both the Army and Marine Corps. He was a participating Mason and High Springs Rotarian and served in the Sheriff’s Department as a Major under Joe Crevasse and Lou Hendry, during which time he married Phyllis Bowling and had two children, Wilda Isabel (Joseph) and Thomas (Kelly). He loved to travel and went on many around-the-world trips with his family. Wayne was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church. He loved his garden and made the best boiled peanuts ever, and was affectionately called “Sweet Wayne” for the way he made everyone feel special. Wayne is preceded by his wife and two siblings Geraldine Schlosser and Bill, and is survived by his two children, five grandchildren, and sister Betty Anne Steffan.

The family will receive friends on September 9, 2016 from 1 until 2 PM at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Traxler, Florida with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place after the ceremony at High Springs Cemetery.
